Overtime

All of the pensionable service you built up in the career average scheme during the remedy period will be moved to the final salary scheme when legislation takes effect on 1 October 2023. This is referred to as ‘roll back’.

For affected members who worked overtime during the remedy period (1 April 2015 – 31 March 2022), you’ll need to make a decision on what you want to do with these contributions. While it’s pensionable in the career average scheme, overtime isn’t in the final salary scheme.

You can:

  • Accept a one-off compensation payment
  • Defer your compensation payment until you decide to take the benefits you’ve built up during the remedy period and make your choice between final salary and career average. If you then choose final salary, they’ll be compensated whereas if you choose career average, they’ll be reinstated unless you’re over retirement age, in which case they’ll be compensated.
