Died before 1 October 2023

In some circumstances, a deceased member who didn’t receive Transitional Protection would have accrued service in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for excess service instead of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme. Due to the changes being introduced, the rollback of this service to the LGPS will be delayed until either:

• the decision maker confirms their immediate choice, or
• the immediate choice election period ends.

If career average benefits are elected, the excess service will be included in the benefits paid. If final salary benefits are elected, the excess service will roll back to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
