Member and period of service affected

It's important to realise that many members aren’t affected by any of the changes and so don’t need to do anything. The changes only affect those who had pensionable service in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (or another public service pension scheme) on 31 March 2012, have service in the remedy period (1 April 2015 – 31 March 2022) and don’t have a disqualifying break.

Why might a member not be affected by the changes?

They’ll not be affected by the changes if they:

  • first joined one of the main public service pension schemes on or after 1 April 2012
  • have had a break in service of more than five years since 1 April 2012 (also known as a disqualifying break)
  • have no service in the remedy period (1 April 2015 – 31 March 2022),
  • retired and took their final salary pension in full prior to 1 April 2015.
