Are you a deferred member of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme?

If so we want to hear from you. We’re currently undertaking an exercise to locate and contact our deferred member population.

A “deferred” pension relates to active unclaimed pensions, where a member has left the Scheme but hasn’t transferred their existing pension (only applicable to those members who have not yet reached their normal pension age) to a new scheme or claimed the residual funds – this can be through a refund of contributions or by claiming pension benefits.

As a deferred member you could have unclaimed benefits which you’re not aware of and therefore engaging with you and facilitating payment of these benefits is currently a priority for us.

Our initiative pulls from a number of data sources to find new details for members or confirm their existing details are correct. It’s possible that you may be contacted if you’ve ever been in teaching and asked to verify yourself online or by phone using your date of birth, NI number and Teachers’ Pensions (also known as DfE) reference number. If you’ve received a request in writing from Teachers’ Pensions, we can confirm it’s legitimate and we urge you to complete the online process at www.verificationonline.co.uk/teacherspensions (This link opens in a new window)

If you have any questions about the verification process contact our dedicated verification line on 0845 120 8213. Don’t be alarmed if you’ve seen the address 65 Gresham Street, London, EC2V 7NQ – we can confirm this address is also legitimate.
Once verified we’ll write to you within 15 days to explain the next steps to claim your outstanding benefits or refund of contributions.
