Provision of concurrent service

We wanted to remind you of the process for the provision of concurrent service.

If you’re a non-local authority establishment and a member has two or more contracts within the same establishment, you must use the concurrent calculator and submit the amalgamated line of service to us using the school number.

If you’re a Local Authority where members are with different establishments then each line of service must be submitted individually and our system will calculate the concurrent service.  If there are two or more contacts within the same Local Authority school, you must use the concurrent calculator to ensure that all service is recorded correctly. You must use 0953 as the establishment number when submitting concurrent service derived using the calculator.

We’ve also had queries relating to members with two contracts under the same establishment, but have only completed work in one of the contracts.

We’re finding that two lines of service are sometimes submitted via the MDC template for the same period, with the same dates and establishment number, as ‘A’ (add) lines, with one line showing part-time earnings, and the other line showing full days excluded.

In this circumstance the second line can overwrite the first line, which may not always show a true reflection of service on the member record, and therefore we recommend that the concurrent calculator should be used to provide a single line of service.
